The California Department of
Alcoholic Beverage Control has delayed a hearing on a liquor license
at the casino owned by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash
Indians.
The three-day hearing was scheduled to begin today. But the ABC said it needed more time to look into information submitted by opponents.
“The tribe and casino management were ready for the hearing as originally scheduled for this month (May). It was the ABC’s request for continuance that moved the hearing to the fall,” Sam Cohen, a government and legal specialist for the tribe, told The Santa Maria Times.
The tribe is seeking to expand the sale of liquor at the Chumash Casino Hotel and
Resort. Alcohol, however, won't be allowed on the gaming floor.
