Greg Sarris, the normally outspoken chairman of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in California, has been quiet about his tribe's long quest for a casino.
The effort took a significant step forward with the signing of a Class III gaming compact with California Gov. Jerry Brown (D).
But other than a few calls to local officials, Sarris hasn't said much to the public about the casino, such as when construction might begin.
Some details were gleaned from a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing by Station Casinos, the tribe's partner. The company said construction could begin this summer, The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reported.
But that timeline could slip because the compact still needs legislative approval. Once that occurs, the Bureau of Indian Affairs will take 45 days to review the agreement.
