The Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria, also known as the Coast Miwok Tribe, signed a Class III gaming compact with California Gov. Jerry Brown (D).
The tribe plans to build a $433 million casino on 254 acres in Sonoma County.
The project has been in the works since the tribe gained federal recognition through an act of Congress in 2000.
"The compact includes provisions to protect employees and patrons as well as measures to protect the environment during the construction and operation of gaming facilities," Brown's office said in a press release. "It also funds programs in local communities to mitigate the effect of gaming activities and address gambling addiction."
