Marcella Giles, a prominent Indian rights attorney, says plans for a casino on her Indian allotment have been in the works for years.
Giles, a member of the Muscogee Nation, and her sister inherited the allotment from their father. They are leasing it to the Kialegee Tribal Town for a casino that has generated significant controversy.
But Giles says no one has tried to hide anything from the public. Her own tribe has known as far back as June 2010 of plans for the Red Clay Casino.
“There has been transparency and public information for decades," Giles told The Broken Arrow Ledger, citing development plans and highway plans that have been slated in the area where her allotment is located.
Chief George Tiger of the Muscogee Nation says his tribe should have veto approval over the casino.
