Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) is opposing another off-reservation casino.
The Twentynine Palms Band of Mission Indians wants to build a casino in Joshua Tree. But Feinstein said the site is too close to Joshua Tree National Park.
"Placing a casino less than a mile from the park's visitor center and park wilderness will forever change the nature of the desert treasure," Feinstein said in a letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, The Hi-Desert Star reported.
Feinstein is opposing other off-reservation casinos in California and is sponsoring S.872,
a bill to restrict the gaming rights of the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians.
