The Tohono O'odham Nation has donated nearly $235,000 in gaming revenues to the city of Peoria, Arizona.
Mayor Bob Barrett has been a vocal supporter of the tribe's off-reservation casino. The city, however, hasn't taken an official stand on the controversial project.
"These contributions are merely examples of the types of support we bring to the community. Chairman Ned Norris Jr. said in a statement, The Arizona Republic reported.
"Once our facility is constructed, the level of support for community programs will increase dramatically," he added, referring to the proposed casino.
The tribe's grant will be used for the fire department, the school district and a leadership program in Peoria.
