The Bay Mills Indian Community of Michigan is filing four motions this week to dismiss a lawsuit that led to the closure of its off-reservation casino, Chairman Jeff Parker said. The tribe opened a casino in Vanderbilt last November. The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and the state of Michigan sued, prompting a federal judge to order the facility to be closed. The Bay Mills Indian Community has appealed the ruling to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. Oral arguments have not been held but Parker is hoping the underlying litigation will come to an end. “We believe we’ve covered all the bases and we can go forward,” Parker told the West Flint Business Association yesterday, The Flint Journal reported. The tribe is looking to build another casino in Flint. Get the Story:
