The Glendale Chamber of
Commerce hosted a panel to discuss Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino although the tribe wasn't invited to present its views.
Only opponents of the casino spoke. They included Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community President Diane Enos and Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs.
“If this process plays out in their favor, there is nothing to stop them from purchasing more county islands and operating more casinos,” Enos said, The Glendale Daily News-Sun reported.
The Tohono O'odham Nation owns 135 acres of unincorporated land near Glendale. A federal judge has blocked the city's efforts to annex the land.
