The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians could get live dealers at its casino when lawmakers in North Carolina reconvene for their fall session.
Tribal leaders have been pushing to amend the Class III gaming compact for years. Now Gov. Beverly Purdue (D) is on their side.
“The Eastern Band of Cherokee approached the Governor’s Office because they wanted to negotiate with us to expand the current Compact to allow table gaming," a spokesperson told The Cherokee One Feather. "The expansion that the Cherokee proposed could create hundreds of jobs in western North Carolina. To expand the Compact to allow table gaming, the General Assembly would have to act to clarify the law.”
