The board of supervisors in Santa Barbara County,
California, withdrew its opposition to a liquor license at the casino
owned by the Santa Ynez
Band of Chumash Indians.
The tribe agreed to 18 conditions that address concerns raised by the county.
Although the issue remains controversial, the supervisors voted 3-2 to drop a protest with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The tribe is transferring an existing license to the Chumash Casino Hotel and
Resort in order to serve liquor in a cafe, a restaurant and the hotel. Alcohol will remain off limits on the gaming floor.
