The state of Rhode Island is issuing a request-for-proposals for a gaming study, The Providence Journal reports.
The study focuses on two areas. The first is the potential expansion of the Twin River Casino, a non-Indian owned slot machine facility.
The second area is called the “Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) Casino Study.”
Gov. Lincoln Chafee (I) has said the Narragansett Tribe should be included in any talks about the expansion of gaming in the state.
A 1997 amendment to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act bars the tribe from conducting gaming under the law.
