A Class III gaming compact for the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians of Wisconsin has reportedly been submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The BIA has 45 days to review the deal, which covers an off-reservation casino in the Catskills region of New York. A story from Crain's Business New York placed the deadline as February 19, a date consistent with an article in The Middletown Times Herald-Record that said the compact was submitted around January 5.
The casino faces numerous legal challenges from tribes, who say the Stockbridge Munsee Band lacks ties to New York. Gaming interests also oppose the proposal and have called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to reconsider the deal, which was signed by his predecessor.
