Talk Back: Residents not keen on Bay Mills off-reservation casino

"Could Port Huron become a gambling town? Two out of three callers think that would be a losing proposition.

Talk to me:

J. from St. Clair County: "I see Bay Mills bought land that possibly could be used for a casino in Port Huron. Hopefully, Bay Mills can figure out how to get three casinos here. Then we can match the wonderful, booming economy Detroit has. Who in the world thinks casinos are the answer to the difficulties around here? All they're going to do is siphon off what little money we have left."

Chris from Emmett: "It appears we finally might be getting a casino. I can't imagine any other reason the Bay Mills Indians would buy land in Port Huron. Hopefully, a casino will open. I don't know what they did behind the scenes to get this going, but it appears it's been in the works for a while."

Sandy from Fort Gratiot: "I'm calling about the possible Bay Mills plan for a casino where the old post office sits in downtown Port Huron. Shame on Jim Acheson and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who apparently support a Port Huron casino -- and shame on the city of Port Huron for allowing this to happen.""
