Bay Mills Indian Community mum following purchase of more land

The Bay Mills Indian Community is keeping Michigan guessing about its gaming plans.

On Wednesday, the tribe opened an off-reservation casino on land that apparently hasn't been taken into trust. That same day, the tribe bought about 16.5 acres in Port Huron, where an off-reservation casino has long been proposed.

Tribal officials couldn't be reached for comment. But the last time Chairman Jeff Parker talked about the tribe's land acquisitions, he denied rumors of a casino.

About a week later, the off-reservation casino in Vanderbilt opened.
