St. Regis Mohawk Tribe seeks return of revenue shared with state

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is headed to arbitration with the state of New York over a Class III gaming compact issue.

The tribe claims the state has violated the exclusivity provision of the compact by allowing another Mohawk group to operate slot machines. The tribe plans to seek the return of revenues it has already shared with the state.

"That's an issue that we're going to be bringing up with the state," Chief Mark H. Garrow told The Watertown Daily Times.

The tribe has shared more than $30 million with the state since 2004, the paper said.
