Mohawk community in New York reportedly offers slot machines

A Mohawk community that is not affiliated with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is reportedly offering slot machines in New York.

The Watertown Daily Times called the bingo hall at the Ganienkeh Territory and an employee said slot were being offered. Leaders of the Ganienkeh People's Council, however, did not comment.

Ray Cook, a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, said Ganienkeh has been offering slots for years. He said it's a reason why the tribe has withheld revenue-sharing payments from the state.

"It's always been the state's responsibility to take care of the exclusivity," Cook told the paper. "Apparently, patience ran out."

The Mohawks at Ganienkeh Territory are not federally recognized but the state considers their land to be a reservation, according to the paper.
