Seneca Nation holds meetings over disputed compact payment

The Seneca Nation is meeting with local leaders today to discuss its compact dispute with the state of New York.

The tribe has withheld $214 million from the state in response to an expansion of non-Indian gaming. Gov. David Paterson (D) responded by threatening to terminate the compact.

The tribe operates three casinos under the compact. Two are located off the reservation.

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster spoke with Paterson's legal counsel and said the state doesn't intend on forcing the closure of the casinos.
