Judge plans a trial in Flandreau Santee Sioux compact lawsuit

It looks like the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and the state of South Dakota will head to trial in a gaming compact lawsuit.

The tribe wants to renegotiate its Class III compact to authorize more slot machines. The existing agreements limits the Royal River Casino to 250 machines.

Gov. Mike Rounds (R), who will leave office after this year's election, won't negotiate. The tribe says his refusal violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

Judge Lawrence Piersol has asked both sides to determine when they will be ready for a trial.
