The developer of a proposed casino in Lyon County, Iowa, isn't worried about a rival project from the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.
Dan Kehl, the chief executive of Kehl Management, believes the tribe's off-reservation casino faces many hurdles. His $120 million project can get off the ground much quicker, he said.
"If they decide to join this marketplace, we'll have a good three or four years under our belt," Kehl told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
The tribe would need to have land placed in trust for the casino and would need the approval of the state governor. The tribe also needs to amend its Class III gaming compact, which currently limits the tribe to 250 slot machines.
