Wyandotte Nation confident for second out-of-state casino bid

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma is expecting movement from the Obama administration on its bid for a second casino in Kansas.

The tribe already operates a Class II facility in downtown Kansas City. The property was purchased with funds that were authorized by an act of Congress and its legality has been upheld repeatedly in the federal courts.

A second parcel in Park City was also purchased with same funds, second chief Billy Friend told The Wichita Eagle. That means the Bureau of Indian Affairs should have no problem placing the land in trust.

"It's the best news we've had in the last four years," Friend said of an Obama administration memo that called on the BIA to move forward with pending land-into-trust applications. The Park City site would appear to fall under the land claim exception, the same as the Kansas City site.

Park City is outside of Wichita, near the site of a proposed commercial casino. Global Gaming Solutions, a subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, is planning to bid on the Sumner County casino, the paper said.
