115 new cases, 39,349 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Thursday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 115 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths is 1,588. The report indicates that 39,349 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 414,569 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 41,399, including 22 delayed reported cases.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 7,406
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,928
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 4,777
• Gallup Service Unit: 6,766
• Kayenta Service Unit: 3,532
• Shiprock Service Unit: 7,406
• Tuba City Service Unit: 5,113
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,446

* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Thursday, the state of Arizona reported 5,687 new cases, the state of Utah reported 3,563 new cases, and New Mexico reported 2,209.

“Please take precautions to lessen the risks of COVID-19 and please protect your elders as much as possible during the holidays. Today, there are 115 new cases and we encourage everyone to limit large gatherings while celebrating the New Year. Celebrate safely and please think of all the health care workers and first responders who continue to fight for us all. Keep praying and have a wonderful New Year with your loved ones,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“As we rejoice together and give thanks for our blessings, please remember and pray for those facing adversity and challenges during this time.
