Office of the President and Vice President

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 31, 2021

107 new cases and no deaths related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 107 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,588. A full report will be available on Monday.

On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 7,721 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will report case numbers on Monday.

“We wish all of our Diné people a safe, healthy, and happy New Year! As we celebrate, please do so safely and responsibly to help keep everyone safe and in good health. We pray that our Nation and our people will continue to move forward with strength, resilience, and perseverance. Yesterday and today, we see a larger increase in cases that is likely due to the recent Christmas holiday and some delayed reporting. Our health care experts continue to urge our people to enjoy the holidays safely and with only those in your immediate household. Please be safe, get fully vaccinated, get a booster shot, and continue to pray for our people. As we bring in the New Year, please be responsible and do not drink and drive,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“As we enter the New Year, we continue to mitigate this pandemic and challenge ourselves and others to do more to protect our loved ones and to help lessen the burden on our frontline workers. We must continue to support one another and persevere through the challenges to help heal our Nation. Please enjoy this time safely and responsibly,”said Vice President Myron Lizer.
