22 new cases and three deaths related to COVID-19 reported
WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Saturday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 22 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and three deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,581. A full report will be available after the holiday weekend.
On Saturday, the state of Arizona reported 3,495 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will resume reporting of case numbers following the Christmas holiday.
“Have a safe and joyful Christmas with your loved ones. Please take precautions to lessen the risks of COVID-19 and please protect your elders as much as possible. We are in this together and we do not want to see another large surge in new cases. Celebrate safely and please think of all the health care workers and first responders who continue to fight for us all. Keep praying and have a wonderful time with your loved ones,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
“As we rejoice together and give thanks for our blessings, please remember and pray for those facing adversity and challenges during this time. Please be safe and take safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Have a safe and Merry Christmas. Celebrate responsibly and do not drink and drive,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
