“The Omicron variant was detected in the state of California on Wednesday, marking the first confirmed case of the variant in the United States. Health officials are studying the new variant to determine if the COVID-19 vaccines will be effective against it. While there is still much to be learned about the variant, we must continue to be diligent and take precautions to reduce the spread of the virus. The best course of action is to get fully vaccinated, get your booster shot if you are fully vaccinated, and limit travel. The safest place to be is at home here on the Navajo Nation. Please be safe and keep praying for our people and our frontline warriors,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“The mental health of our people is a great concern as this pandemic continues. We ask all of our people to check on their elders, but do so safely. We have to support one another and keep praying for our families, relatives, and those who are fighting the virus. Please be very careful and continue to pray,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
