65 new cases, 32,423 recoveries, and one more death related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Wednesday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 65 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and one more death. The total number of deaths is now 1,448. The report indicates that 32,423 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 342,022 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 34,260, including one delayed reported case.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 6,187
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,347
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 4,059
• Gallup Service Unit: 5,507
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,982
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,819
• Tuba City Service Unit: 4,202
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,138

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Wednesday, the state of Arizona reported 2,041 new cases, Utah reported 1,975 new cases, and New Mexico reported 838 new cases. 

“Masks and vaccines work. The data shows that masks help to reduce the spread of COVID-19 from person to person. The vaccines are effective in reducing the severity of symptoms if you contract COVID-19 and reduces the chances of being hospitalized or losing your life. We have to remain strong and focus on being cautious, especially if you travel or go into public places. The safest place to be is at home here on the Navajo Nation. Please continue to pray, wear a mask, and get vaccinated for COVID-19,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
