40 new cases, 31,928 recoveries, and two more deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 40 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and two more deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,439. The report indicates that 31,928 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 334,605 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 33,722.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 6,143
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,292
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 4,001
• Gallup Service Unit: 5,354
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,954
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,712
• Tuba City Service Unit: 4,133
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,114

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 2,998 new cases, Utah reported 1,672 new cases, and New Mexico reported 714 new cases. 

“Numbers of new infections are much higher in border towns and cities located off the Navajo Nation. Once again, our Navajo people and public health professionals are setting a great example by keeping our numbers lower than other regions, states, and the country. We have to continue to wear our masks and be very cautious especially in public. Please take care of yourselves, check on your elders, and encourage your loved ones to get vaccinated. We are in this together,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“We are overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic one day at a time. It is very challenging for many of our people, but our frontline warriors are doing their best to treat people and to save lives. Please keep praying and keep taking precautions to keep yourselves and others safe and healthy,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
