24 new cases, 30,800 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Sunday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 24 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,403. The report indicates that 30,800 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 311,722 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 32,528.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 5,945
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,124
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,858
• Gallup Service Unit: 5,177
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,877
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,505
• Tuba City Service Unit: 3,957
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,066

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Sunday, the state of Arizona reported 2,090 new cases. Utah and New Mexico will report weekend case numbers on Monday. The Navajo Department of Health advises the public to report COVID-19 exposures through their website at: https://www.ndoh.navajo-nsn.gov/COVID-19 to help compile information and mitigation efforts. 

“Stay local, stay safe. The safest place to be is at home here on the Navajo Nation. The more people who travel off the Navajo Nation and attend large gatherings while not wearing masks, the more people that will return home and spread the Delta variant to family members and others. Our health care experts can only do so much. They’ve given us the guidance and knowledge to protect ourselves from COVID-19, but it’s ultimately our personal choices and actions that impact the overall results for our Nation. We have to do better, we have to keep wearing masks, and get more of our people fully vaccinated as soon as possible. We are in this together,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
