37 new cases and one more death related to COVID-19 reported
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Sunday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 37 new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation and one more death. The overall total number of deaths is now 1,390. On Sunday, the state of Arizona reported 3,052 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will report their weekend case numbers on Monday.
“Be safe, wear a mask, and get fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as possible. The Delta variant is a growing concern for the Navajo Nation and the entire country. Our health care professionals have provided the guidance that we need to protect ourselves and it’s up to us, as individuals, to adhere to their guidance and do everything you can to keep yourselves healthy. There are plenty of vaccines widely available at each health care facility on the Navajo Nation, so please make an appointment or pay a visit to one of the centers to receive the vaccine. Stay safe and continue to pray for our communities,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

The Navajo Department of Health issued three new Public Health Emergency Orders this week, declaring “Orange Status” for businesses, schools, and revising in-person gathering limits for certain events in response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases on the Navajo Nation. The new public health emergency orders will go into effect on Monday, August 16, 2021. The Navajo Nation’s mask mandate remains in effect. “If you travel anywhere on or off the Navajo Nation, please continue to wear a mask in public and when you’re in close proximity to others who live outside of your household. We are in this together, so please take precautions and think about the health of others during this pandemic. Please be safe and continue to pray for all people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
