3 new cases, 29,615 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19 

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Tuesday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported three new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,352 as previously reported. The report indicates that 29,615 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 281,439 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 30,997. 

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 5,630
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 2,977
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,680
• Gallup Service Unit: 4,911
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,746
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,279
• Tuba City Service Unit: 3,763
• Winslow Service Unit: 1,992

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Tuesday, the state of Arizona reported 546 new cases, Utah reported 361, and New Mexico reported 52 cases.

“The Delta variant is creating many concerns among health experts across the country. In the state of Utah, they are experiencing the highest rate of hospitalizations since February. So, it’s very important that we get more of our people fully vaccinated to help push back on all of the COVID-19 variants. As we reported on Friday, the first confirmed case of the Delta variant was identified in the northern part of the Navajo Nation. If we continue to get vaccinated and to wear masks in public, we will have a greater chance of minimizing the impact of the Delta variant. Please be safe and continue to take precautions,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit. 

“Personal responsibility is key to reducing the spread of the COVID-19 variants. Our public health experts have given us the tools and guidance to keep ourselves safe and healthy, so please continue to listen to their advice. I also want to thank our health care workers and first responders for all of the great work they continue to do in order to save lives. Please continue to pray and take precautions,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
