15 new cases, 29,302 recoveries, and one more death related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Saturday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the NavajoEpidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 15 new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation and one more death. The total number of deaths is now 1,292 as of Saturday. Reports indicate that 29,302 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 270,012 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 30,708.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 5,591
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 2,947
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,656
• Gallup Service Unit: 4,878
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,723
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,183
• Tuba City Service Unit: 3,734
• Winslow Service Unit: 1,983

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Saturday, the state of Arizona reported 474 new cases, Utah reported 320, and New Mexico will report weekend case numbers on Monday. On Saturday, Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez visited several COVID-19 vaccination sites in Ganado and Chinle to show his support for adolescents and families who received the vaccines.  

“Thank you to all of the health care workers and others who are working through the weekend to provide more opportunities for those who are 12 years and older to get vaccinated. It was great to see families coming out and getting vaccinated together. The more people who get vaccinated, the greater protection for our communities against the virus. We have to continue to take precautions and to support each other. Please be safe and continue to wear masks in public, indoors and outdoors. We are in this together,” said President Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit. 

“With every person that gets vaccinated, we take another step toward community immunity. In addition to getting vaccinated, we must continue to take precautions to keep ourselves and others healthy. Please remember that there are variants present in our communities, so please be safe and continue to pray for our people and communities,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
