WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2003 The May 24 Cherokee Nation election that resulted in the re-election of chief Chad Smith are being challenged by the three losing candidates. Smith won with 52 percent of the vote. Former chief Joe Byrd, L.S. Fields and Robin Mayes allege various irregularities with the handling of voter ballots. Get the Story:
