THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2003

The Weekly Standard, a conservative publication, argues against letting tribal governments manage national park and wildlife units.

The Standard says the national park system should be managed under consistent principles "not the whims of numerous, independent tribes." Numerous conservationists who oppose the proposed transfer of the National Bison Range in Montana to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, are quoted in the article.
