THURSDAY, JULY 3, 2003

The Department of Interior is continuing talks with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes over a proposed takeover of the National Bison Range.

The two sides missed a self-imposed June 30 deadline to come up with an annual funding agreement. The agreement is part of the tribe's self-governance compact.

The bison range is located within the boundaries of the Flathead Reservation.
