A Navajo Nation council panel delayed hearings into charges of nepotism among the tribe's top leaders.

The Government Services Committee was slated to start the inquiry but decided to wait because Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. has filed a legal challenge to the proceedings. An attorney representing Shirley and his staff filed a motion to quash testimony to the committee.

Shirley and Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. have come under fire for hiring their wives for paid positions. Their wives eventually resigned but the leaders are accused of hiring other relatives.
