DOI responsible for former Vieques bombing range

FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2003 The Department of Interior is now responsible for management of a former bombing range on the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico. The Interior will turn the land into a wildlife refuge. The Environmental Protection Agency may add it to the national Superfund list. Puerto Ricans opposed the use of the island by the Navy. After years of protest, the military agreed to stop using the bombing range. Get the Story:
