NIGC threatens to close Meskwaki Tribe's casino

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23, 2003 The National Indian Gaming Commission is threatening to shut down the Meskwaki Tribe's casino in Iowa due to an ongoing leadership dispute, The Cedar Falls Courier reported. Richard Schiff, NIGC chief of staff, said the dispute creates a problem for the casino operation. "All we are concerned with is that we have a tribal government ensuring the integrity of the gaming operation," he was quoted as saying. The tribe's elected council was removed and replaced by an an appointed one. Get the Story:
