At Peace
To The Family of Lori P. (Lady Warrior):

Today our family heard the sad news about Lori's passing on CNN. And it is with heavy hearts that we now send you our condolences, prayers, and wishes of peace. May you know that she did not die in vain; rather she died fighting for her country and for peace - a True Lady Warrior.

Now she is at peace with her ancestors, whom also died the same way, and embraced by the white light of God/The Great Spirit.

Never Forget
I am saddened to hear of the death of PFC Lori Piestewa. I prayed for her everyday and will continue to do so. My heart goes out to her family, with much respect. Now Let the history books read that the first woman to give her life as a US soldier was a strong, young Native American woman. Let the children all over the country know this and learn this along with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, let all the children learn that the first woman soldier casualty was a Native American woman. Let them learn this and know this, let them learn to respect us and all we give for our country, our traditional homeland. And it took a woman, a brave, young, strong Native American woman. I will never forget her and promise to do my best to honor all our strong woman, our little Hopi sister.

The Ultimate Sacrifice
Hundreds of thousands of people across the Internet were praying for your daughter's safe return. Many people, many tribes. She has made the Ultimate Sacrifice in service for her country, for her family, for her children, to be safe. I am reminded of a quote I read earlier today: "We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men (and now, women) stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm" - George Orwell. I can imagine Lori as a protector, as someone who watches over her family. We are proud of your daughter. Your family, your tribe will be in our thoughts and prayers for some time, as will the many soldiers across the Nations.

A Loss
I am a supporter of the war...at great length I have argued in my household with my "boys" 15 and 17 about the "reasons" for this war, fully knowing that young men and women like my kids are going to die. Frankly, while I support the war, and I am NOT a chauvinist, I have always had reservations about women being in a combat situation. That Lori represented our Nation (USA), your Nation (American Indians) so willingly, leads me to believe that women do belong in combat. With her being the "first" female casualty of war for our country, it strikes me as very ironic that it would be a woman of Native descent. She truly did die for "our" (her) country. I have a deep respect for her sacrifice, and I have cried deeply at your loss.

Our Hero, Our Warrior
Dear family of Lori,

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lori. We have all prayed so hard that she would come back to her family and friends. But believing as Native americans do, we know she is now watching over all of us not from the front lines of Iraq, but from our great creator's place. A place where we will all be someday. And we know she lives.

Please accept our deepest condolences, and we pray for you and your family to be strong and for Lori's children that they will grow up knowing that their mother was "our warrior and hero."

Immense Sadness
To the family of Lori Piestewa,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I feel immense sadness for her children because at such young ages they should not endure a tragedy like this one. I am certain Lori's family will be her children's strength and support from now on, but the love of a mother is something a child never forgets and that is what makes this incident so tragic.

To Whom it may concern,

I was heartbroken to learn that PFC Piestewa was confirmed to have been killed in action in Iraq. I pray that the Lord grant her eternal peace, and solace to her family. While I would never try to tell people how to feel, I hope that they feel pride in knowing that she was over there to help free an oppressed people from a tyrannical despot. I hope that her children grow up learning that she was fighting for people she didn't even know to become free.

I had read that PFC Piestewa was a single mother, and was wondering if any sort of a fund to help her children has been set up.

Our hearts are heavy with the lose of a sister... We offer our prayers, strength and love to all who loved her... She is a true warrior and honored her people with her brave heart.
