Four years ago, Congress authorized a dam project in Kansas that would help relieve drought worries on the Kickapoo Reservation and surrounding areas.

With work yet to begin, the tribe is now in the midst of a multi-year drought. The $7 million project needs $2 million from the federal government to get off off the ground. The tribe will pay the rest, said chairman Steve Cadue.
