Swimmer nominated to take over OST

MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 2003 President Bush on Friday announced his intention to nominate Ross Swimmer as Special Trustee for American Indians. Swimmer was assistant secretary for Indian affairs during the last three years of the Reagan administration. He joined the Bush administration in November 2001 to reorganize Indian trust duties within the Department of Interior. Swimmer must be approved by the Senate. The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has to hold a confirmation hearing. If his nomination is not cleared by the time Congress recesses later this year, Bush can make a temporary one-year recess appointment. Get the Story:
