N.D. tribal law against felons upheld

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002 A tribal appeals court in North Dakota has upheld a tribal law forbidding felons from holding office for the Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Tribe. Tribal members in 1997 passed the conviction ban. The appeals court said the law was just. The decision bars Lee Gourneau from running for tribal council. Get the Story:
