"If you're into snoot, you gotta look like you just stepped out of the slick pages of Cowboys & Indians magazine (which really should be "Indians & Cowboys," by the way), if you're anybody at all.

Which I am not. I just ain't got the snoot factor. It's not in my jeans.

But, as a wise man or woman once said, "reality bites," and the reality of it all is this odd symbiotic relationship that exists between the snoots and the artists. We need them, and they need us.

Nowhere is this more evident than at the Western Visions Art Show and Sale, held at the magnificent National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson. This event draws some of the top artists of the nation. They would be the ones in jeans, milling nervously about at the food tables, piling their plates high and anxiously stuffing their faces and their pockets with whatever they can grab. They cast quick glances in the direction of the snoots, who are gathered in tight groups, and even tighter clothes, in front of the paintings on the walls, which they barely notice anyway, in their tireless efforts to impress each other, and to be noticed.

Meanwhile, I'm in the corner, with my back to the wall, plate piled high, stomach expanding, and, thinking that they're gonna have to expand this wonderful facility if the egos and the cowboy hats get any bigger. . ."
