John Potter: Get on the bus
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2002

"Seriously, people. If you think you’ve got it bad, get on a bus.

Nothing lifts your spirits and calms your rattled nerves like spending hour upon poignant hour cruising this nation’s highways and byways with the colorful, interesting folk of who travel by bus.

Ah, yes.

What could be more pleasant and relaxing than watching the miles go by from the luxurious, comfortable upholstery of a bus seat – a seat which is delightfully dappled in a kind of Jackson-Pollack-on-acid color scheme?

What could be more fascinating than engaging in smoke-scented conversation with a rapidly fossilizing wino who’s done absolutely everything anyone could possibly do on God’s green earth?

And what’s this?

Oh, how refreshing to know that the helpful passenger across the aisle was only going through my backpack to make sure that nothing was missing. And here I thought he might be trying to steal something. See how a simple bus ride can restore your faith in human decency?"
