A Montana county being represented by a conservative legal organization has appealed a Native voting rights case.

The action brought anger from the Fort Belknap Tribes, whose reservation encompasses the county. Tribal community president Ben Speak Thunder said Mountain States Legal Foundation wants to "strip our rights as Native Americans," The Great Falls Tribune reported.

Mountain States is a Colorado-based organization that has fought sacred site protections and tribal-related cases. Secretary of Interior Gale Norton and one of her top aides, Rebecca Watson, both worked for the group.
