Senate Committee on Indian Affairs schedules business meeting

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is taking up more pending legislation at a business meeting this week.
Three items are on the agenda for the meeting on Wednesday afternoon. They follow:
• S.465, the BADGES for Native Communities Act. The Bridging Agency Data Gaps & Ensuring Safety (BADGES) for Native Communities Act seeks to improve public safety in Indian Country by making changes affecting the Bureau of Indian Affairs and tribal nations. A hearing took place on May 1.
• S.2908, the Indian Buffalo Management Act. The bill establishes a permanent program at the Department of the Interior to help promote and develop tribal capacity to manage buffalo, or bison. A hearing took place on June 12.
• S.4370, the Tribal Forest Protection Act Amendments Act of 2024. The bill ensures that Alaska Native corporations can participate in stewardship of federal forest lands. It also addresses a requirement that has limited tribal participation on lands important to their communities. A hearing took place on July 25.
The meeting takes place in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. It will be immediately followed by a legislative hearing on five bills.
