Agenda
• S.2908, the Indian Buffalo Management Act. The bill establishes a permanent program at the Department of the Interior to help promote and develop tribal capacity to manage buffalo, or bison.
• S.3263, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Parity Act. The bill confirms that the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, headquartered in Alabama, can follow the land-into-trust process under the Indian Reorganization Act. It also ratifies prior land-into-trust acquisitions made for the tribe, whose federal recognition was confirmed in 1984.
• S.4000, A bill to reaffirm the applicability of the Indian Reorganization Act to the Lytton Rancheria of California, and for other purposes. The bill confirms that the Lytton Rancheria, headquartered in California, can follow the land-into-trust process under the Indian Reorganization Act. It also confirms that any land-into-trust acquisitions made for the tribe, whose federal recognition was reaffirmed in 1991 as part of litigation, are part of the tribe’s reservation.
• S.4442, the Crow Tribe Water Rights Settlement Amendments Act of 2024. The bill updates a water settlement with the Crow Tribe, headquartered in Montana. The amendments ensure the tribe has flexibility to develop water and energy projects that fulfill the previously approved water settlement.
