Indigenous athletes: what it takes to get to the Olympics
The 2024 Paris Olympics are underway with more than 50 Indigenous athletes competing in the games.
The figure includes the national team with the highest number of Indigenous athletes in the history of the Games: New Zealand, with 37 competitors of Māori descent. The United States has three Native Hawaiian athletes and Canada has at least five Olympic hopefuls representing various Indigenous nations.
