Native talent lands nominations for annual Emmy Awards

Native talent is being recognized with high-profile nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards.

Lily Gladstone (Blackfeet / Nez Perce) landed a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. She is being recognized for her role in Under the Bridge, a limited-run miniseries that premiered on Hulu in April.

D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Oji-Cree) won a nomination for Lead Actor in a Comedy Services. He starred in Reservation Dogs, which ran for three seasons on FX on Hulu.

The Native-led and Native-developed show is also finally being recognized. Reservation Dogs is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, its first and only Emmy nod since debuting in August 2021.

Additionally, Reservation Dogs secured a nomination in Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour). The selection is for Mark Schwartzbard’s work as director of photography for the episode titled “Deer Lady.”

“Television delivers stories that connect us, uplift us, challenge us, and always entertain us,” Cris Abrego, the chair of the Television Academy, which produces the Emmys, said in a press release on Wednesday. “Today, I am honored to celebrate the outstanding work of our extraordinarily talented and hardworking creative community,”

The 76th Emmy Awards will air on ABC on September 15 and on Hulu the following day.
