Sara Hill, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, testifies at her nomination hearing to be a federal judge on November 15, 2023.

Hill is a former attorney general of the Cherokee Nation. In that role, she handled several historic cases, touching on tribal sovereignty, treaties, the Indian Child Welfare Act and the opioid epidemic in Indian Country.

Hill has been nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Oklahoma. If confirmed, she would be the first Native woman and the first Native person to be a federal judge in her home state.

Hill appeared before the
Senate Committee on the Judiciary at a hearing in Washington, D.C. She provided a brief opening statement before answering questions about her legal career.
