On Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. EDT, the House Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States (SCIP) hosts a virtual, fully remote legislative hearing on the following tribal-related legislation:

H.J.Res.55, the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Protecting Family Legacies Act. The resolution provides for Congressional ratification of amendments to the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. The amendments were enacted into law by the Hawaii Legislature in 2017.

H.R.441, a bill to transfer property from the Indian Health Service to the Tanana Tribal Council. The property is located in Tanana, Alaska, and will be used for health care purposes.

H.R.2402, the Winnebago Land Transfer Act of 2021. The bill places lands into trust for the Winnebago Tribe and declares it to be part of the tribe’s reservation. The lands are located in Nebraska and in Iowa.

H.R.4881, the Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act. The bill places land into trust for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and declares it to be part of the tribe’s reservation. The land is located in Tucson, Arizona, and will be eligible for gaming purposes.

H.R.5221, the Urban Indian Health Confer Act. The bill amends the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to require the Indian Health Service and other agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services to “confer, to the maximum extent practicable, with urban Indian organizations.”
