House Committee on Natural Resources schedules markup on Indian Country bills

The House Committee on Natural Resources will meet on Wednesday for a markup.
A handful of Indian Country bills are on the agenda. They follow:
- H.R.733, the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation Restoration Act. The bill transfers nearly 18,000 acres of federal forest lands in Minnesota to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
- H.R.1964, the Lumbee Recognition Act. The bill extends federal recognition to the Lumbee Tribe, based in North Carolina.
- H.R.5153, the Indian Buffalo Management Act. The bill establishes a program within the Department of the Interior to assist tribes and tribal organizations with the protection, conservation and fostering of buffalo herds.
- S.212, the Indian Community Economic Enhancement Act. The bill addresses tribal economic development programs and initiatives at the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Native Americans. Included are provisions to implement the Buy Indian Act. S.212 passed the U.S. Senate on June 27, 2019.
